For me the problem with Clara’s death on Trap Street, is that I never believed the whole ‘Clara has become as reckless as The Doctor’, yes Clara is a reckless character, but then again, that character observation could be levelled at every companion who has ever stepped into The Tardis. It was sad to see Clara become a victim of her own over confidence, but at the same time with a show like Doctor Who it’s important to raise the stakes and make the audience a little uncertain every now and then. As with many of The Doctor’s companions-Rose I’m looking at you-Clara had become too complacent with her own survival. It was interesting to explore how completely blindsided Clara was by her own demise, and how completely avoidable her death really was.

When it first aired, I found Clara’s death in Face the Raven, to be poignant and poetic for her character, a final great big full stop, after a series of mini full stops. It’s only fitting for a character that suffered through so many deaths on the show, that death would be the final outcome for her character.Ĭlara Oswald had to die, but what I am not entirely convinced by is the execution of her death. I could easily write an essay on Clara ‘Prime’ Oswald and maybe I will one day, but the main focus of this post is her exit from the show, and how I would have liked to have seen her character depart the franchise. Love of hate The Impossible Girl, it’s hard to find a neutral stance when it comes to Clara, or should that be Clara Prime, because as we all know Clara had multiple personalities and introductions, until we finally, properly met her in the Bells of St John. With the end of Steven Moffat’s era as Show Runner almost upon us, I have decided to turn my attention onto one of his most divisive and problematic characters, Miss Clara Oswald.
